Everything you need to know before choosing your cello.
Beginner cellists benefit most from properly set up handcrafted or workshop cellos that are easy to play and responsive. At LVL Music Academy, we carefully select beginner cellos that support faster progress and long-term musical development.
Cello prices in Singapore typically vary depending on craftsmanship, materials, and setup quality. In general, cello prices range as follows:
Student & Semi-Handmade Cellos: $800 – $2,000
Fully Handmade Workshop Cellos: $2,350 – $6,500
Advanced & Professional Cellos: $7,000 – $14,000
Master-Grade & Antique Cellos: $10,000 and above (with fine instruments exceeding $30,000 depending on maker and provenance)
Prices vary based on tonewood quality, craftsmanship, ageing of wood, maker reputation, and professional setup standards. At LVL Music Academy, every cello is carefully selected and professionally set up to ensure optimal tone, comfort, and long-term playability.
Cello size depends on the student’s height and arm length rather than age alone. Our team provides professional sizing guidance to ensure comfort, proper technique, and confident playing from the start.
In short if you are above 13 years old, you are very likely to need to use a full sized cello (4/4). However, if you are below 13 years old, you will need one of these cello sizes, 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4.
Buying a cello is often more cost-effective for committed students, as a quality instrument supports better sound and learning progress. Rental remains a flexible option for beginners who prefer to start before making a long-term investment.
A cello should be professionally checked every 6–12 months to maintain optimal tone, setup, and playing comfort. At LVL Music Academy, all purchased instruments include ongoing workshop support to keep your cello performing at its best.
Starting lessons with a properly set up cello helps students develop correct technique and sound from day one. Many beginners choose to purchase early, while rental options are available for those exploring initial interest.
Each cello comes professionally set up and includes essential accessories, ensuring immediate playability. Customers also receive workshop support and expert guidance for long-term instrument care.
A well-made cello often responds more easily, helping beginners produce better tone with less effort. Investing in a quality instrument can significantly improve motivation and learning experience from the beginning.
Handmade and workshop cellos typically offer better tonal depth, responsiveness, and craftsmanship compared to mass-produced instruments. LVL Music Academy focuses on carefully selected instruments designed for musical growth and reliability including semi-handmade, fully handmade and antique cellos.
