On Sunday, 25 May 2025, LVL Music Academy presented Strings and Keys at Voices of Singapore @ The Capitol. Held from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, the concert brought students together for an afternoon of live performance, musical development and shared experience.
A Performance Setting at The Capitol
Voices of Singapore @ The Capitol provided a dedicated setting for the concert and gave students the opportunity to perform outside the familiar environment of their regular lessons.
Performing in a formal venue adds a different dimension to music learning. Students must prepare towards a specific date, adapt to the performance space and present their music in front of an audience.
From Solo Performances to Ensembles
The Strings and Keys programme brought together violin, cello and piano performances across a range of formats. Students performed solo works alongside teacher-student duets, a cello ensemble and a larger group ensemble.
This combination gave students experience both as individual performers and as members of an ensemble. Solo performance requires independence and focus, while ensemble playing develops listening, coordination and awareness of how each musical part contributes to the overall performance.
The varied programme also reflected the different stages of musical development represented within the concert, allowing students to take part in a format appropriate to their current learning and performance experience.
Why Student Concerts Matter
Concerts form an important part of a student’s musical development because they introduce skills that cannot be developed entirely within a weekly lesson.
Preparing for a performance encourages discipline and consistency. Students learn to work towards a deadline, refine their pieces beyond simply playing the correct notes and develop the concentration required to perform from beginning to end.
Stage experience also helps students become more comfortable performing under pressure. Each opportunity to perform contributes to greater confidence, musical independence and the ability to communicate through music.
Ensemble performance develops a different set of skills. Students must listen to the musicians around them, maintain timing, follow musical direction and understand how their own part fits within the group.
For LVL Music Academy, organising student concerts is therefore not simply about presenting completed pieces. These events provide students with meaningful performance experience while bringing together students, teachers and the wider LVL music community.
Strings and Keys 2025 gave students the opportunity to put their preparation into practice in a formal concert environment, performing both independently and alongside others.
