On Sunday, 28 September 2025, LVL Music Academy presented Baroque and Beyond at The Arts House, Chamber. Held from 1:30pm to 3:30pm, the concert brought together violin, cello and piano students for an afternoon of solo, duet and ensemble performances.
Performing at The Arts House
The Arts House provided a distinctive setting for the concert. Located in Singapore’s Civic District, the building is a national monument and was formerly home to Singapore’s Parliament, giving the performance a strong connection to one of the country’s historic cultural spaces.
Performing in the Chamber gave students the experience of presenting their music in a formal venue beyond the lesson room. Preparing for a concert in this environment requires focus, consistency and the ability to adapt to a different acoustic and performance setting.
From Baroque Music and Beyond
As its title suggests, Baroque and Beyond explored music across different periods and styles. The programme included works associated with the Baroque tradition alongside music from later classical periods and more contemporary repertoire.
Violin, cello and piano students took part in individual performances as well as collaborative items. Students from LVL’s violin lessons performed alongside other instrumental students in teacher-student duets, mixed-instrument performances and larger ensemble works, allowing them to experience different forms of music-making within the same concert.
The afternoon progressed from individual performances towards larger group items, including the LVL Kids Ensemble, LVL Cello Ensemble and LVL String Orchestra.

Developing Musicians Through Performance
Student concerts form an important part of musical development because performing requires a different level of preparation from playing during a regular lesson.
Working towards a concert date encourages students to develop consistency and discipline. A piece must not only be learned technically, but prepared to a level where the student can maintain concentration and musical expression throughout a complete performance.
Performing also gives students practical experience in managing the pressure of being on stage. With each concert, they become more familiar with preparing backstage, entering a performance space, responding to an audience and continuing confidently through the music.
Ensemble playing introduces another important aspect of musicianship. Students must listen closely to one another, maintain a shared pulse, follow musical direction and understand how their individual part contributes to a larger sound.
For LVL Music Academy, concerts such as Baroque and Beyond provide students with opportunities to apply what they have developed during lessons while experiencing the collaborative side of music-making.
The concert brought students at different stages of learning together in one programme, culminating in ensemble and orchestral performances that reflected the shared preparation behind the event.
